The Cleveland Browns signed Robert Griffin III to come in and compete for the starting quarterback spot for the 2016 NFL season.
To get Griffin better prepared for his upcoming competition, the quarterback will be traveling to Los Angeles, Ca. to train with quarterback expert Tom House, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
Per the report, House is an associate of Hue Jackson’s. House worked with Andy Dalton last year, so he is familiar with Jackson’s scheme.
In looking at Dalton’s numbers, they improved immensely last season. From 2014 to 2015, Dalton’s percentage of passes completed rose from 64.2 percent to 66.1 percent. And, his touchdown to interception ratio improved vastly from 19:17 to 25:7.
Dalton had this to say regarding his experience with House.
“I just wanted to fine tune the accuracy and get the most out of every throw and when you’re doing it right, it just becomes effortless when the ball comes out of your hand. A lot of that stuff is making sure my shoulders, hips and everything else are going at the right time.”
Anyone watching Dalton in action last year can concur that his time with House was well spent.
In years’ past, House worked with quarterback elites Tom Brady and Drew Brees. According to the report, House utilizes 3D-Motions analysis to study the quarterback’s throwing so it can be rebuilt through proper mechanics.
Regarding Griffin, he could certainly benefit from this upcoming training after warming a bench all last season. Although, from the description Jackson gave about Griffin after his private workout last week, it sounds like RGIII hasn’t lost much — if any — of his dynamic talent.
When Griffin sprinted out to throw a pass, Jackson said “it felt like the Earth moved beneath my feet,” according to Jeff Darlington of NFL.com. Jackson also used the word “freakish” to describe how accurately Griffin was in his passing drills.
With the path to success sitting right in front of him, it would appear that Griffin has landed in the perfect environment in relation to his skill set.
