Report: Aroldis Chapman to be suspended

While New York Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman will not face criminal charges for an alleged off-season domestic violence incident, he will be facing discipline from Major League Baseball.

Even with no charges, this shouldn’t be seen as surprising, especially given how much attention has rightfully been given to domestic violence incidents in sports (Ray Rice, Greg Hardy) over the last few years.

The accusations that Chapman faced were incredibly troubling, even if only partially true.

As Jon Heyman also pointed out, Chapman has issues to answer for regarding the incident, even without charges.

This news comes only a day after it was announced that Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes will be placed on administrative leave while his own domestic violence allegations are sorted out.

The next question, which will presumably be answered relatively soon, is how long will Chapman’s “ban” be? Given that this is commissioner Rob Manfred’s first case of significance, it’s awfully hard to predict.
