Broncos’ Ryan Murphy sent home after involvement in prostitution sting

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Ryan Murphy is a practice squad safety for the Denver Broncos, but he is headed home early after his involvement in a police prostitution sting.

Murphy was not arrested in the sting, but his brother was cited after a prostitute was detained and told officers she needed to get something out of her car. Murphy and his brother were in that car, per CBS San Francisco:

“Sources said Murphy was questioned and released by police. However, his brother and the suspected prostitute were cited. Sources also later revealed that Murphy’s brother and alleged prostitute have a relationship.”

After being informed of the sting, which was set into motion by Santa Clara County’s multi-agency human trafficking task force, the Broncos decided it best to send Murphy home.

Head coach Gary Kubiak released a statement on the matter:

This isn’t the first time a Super Bowl has been subject to prostitution stings. Eugene Robinson infamously was busted the night before Super Bowl XXXIII, and he spent some time talking to the Carolina Panthers about not making the same mistakes he did.

Apparently it would have been better for Robinson to speak to the Broncos.
