Report: John Harbaugh desired by at least two NFL teams

John Harbaugh Baltimore Ravens

With the resignation of Tom Coughlin, there are only seven active NFL head coaches that have won a Super Bowl, so it’s no surprise that one of them — John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens — is a hot commodity.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has reported that two of the seven teams looking for new coaches are interested in poaching Harbaugh away from the Ravens.

Paul Domowitch of Philly.com has said that the Philadelphia Eagles are one of them. That’s no surprise, as Harbaugh was a special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach in Philadelphia from 1998-2007.

Ravens fans, presuming they’re also fans of John Harbaugh, can breathe easy. It’s not likely that the head coach will be leaving Baltimore, and if he is, it won’t come cheap.

“Technically, any team can call the Ravens and inquire about the possibility of hiring Harbaugh,” Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “The Ravens likely would laugh, utter a few curse words, and slam the phone down, probably in that order. But the prospective employer could, in theory, offer a mountain of picks — enough to at least get Baltimore’s attention.”

Despite a 5-11 record in 2015, Harbaugh has been an undeniable success in Baltimore with an overall record of 77-50.

The Ravens have made the playoffs in six of Harbaugh’s eight seasons, reaching four AFC Championship Games and winning one Super Bowl, defeating his brother Jim and the San Francisco 49ers.

In addition to the Eagles, the 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Tennessee Titans are all looking to fill head coaching vacancies.
