Report: Adam Gase to be pursued by Eagles, Browns and Dolphins

Adam Gase couldn’t land a head coaching job for the 2015 NFL season, but it seems as though his luck will probably be better when the 2015 season is in the rear view mirror and 2016 is on the horizon.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, and Miami Dolphins will all be in pursuit of the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator.

This is certainly not a surprise. While Chicago’s offense has been generally underwhelming this year, Gase’s work with Jay Cutler has been lauded. Furthermore, he coordinated the Denver Broncos’ offense in 2013 and 2014 when they featured one of the best offensive machines in the NFL.

More impressive is that Gase has also been tremendously adept at working with different kinds of players. He was the quarterback coach for the Broncos in 2011 with Tim Tebow at quarterback, then held the same position in 2012 with the vastly different Peyton Manning under center before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2013.

While Gase has never held a head coaching job, he’s been a hot commodity in the past. Following the 2014 departure of Jim Harbaugh, Gase was very close to an agreement to become the San Francisco 49ers head coach. But some 11th hour mulligans from the San Francisco front office kept an agreement from being reached.

Of the three teams reportedly interested in him this year, the Browns and Johnny Manziel may be the most intriguing, but the Dolphins would seem to be the best situation for Adam Gase. While Ryan Tannehill is not a superstar, he’s far more stable than either Manziel or Sam Bradford, Lamar Miller is a star running back, if used properly
