DeMarcus Ware’s MRI comes back clean, will play next weekend

DeMarcus Ware

Denver Broncos outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware received good news Friday when an MRI of his knee came back clean.

After suffering the injury during last Sunday’s huge win over the San Diego Chargers, it was determined an MRI was needed to find out if anything serious was going on, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. Thankfully the results are such that Ware won’t miss next weekend’s divisional round playoffs when the Broncos will host the lowest remaining seed in the AFC.

Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips noted Ware isn’t the only player battling through nagging injuries right now. Cornerback Chris Harris linebacker Brandon Marshall and safeties T.J. Ward and Darian Stewart were all out of practice Friday, per Alper.

“We have a lot of guys banged up. We would have had a hard time playing this week,” Phillips said, via the Denver Post.

With an extra week to rest up, thanks to the return of Peyton Manning, whose energy rallied the troops to play out of their minds in the second half, Ware and his injured teammates should be in good shape to perform at a high level in their first playoff game.

If Ware’s knee holds up and he doesn’t deal with any lingering issues that would affect his explosiveness, then the Broncos should be able to generate consistent pressure off the edge. When Ware and Von Miller are in sync, there isn’t another duo in the league that can terrorize quarterbacks like they do.
