Report: Greg Schiano expected to join Ohio State as defensive coordinator

Ohio State football has reportedly landed another big fish.

A program that routinely lands the best players in the nation, the Buckeyes have now reportedly hauled in former Rutgers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano, who will become the team’s defensive coordinator.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this news, noting Schiano will ironically replace new Rutgers head coach Chris Ash.

Schiano’s hard-nosed, no-nonsense approach, along with his tremendous defensive background, should keep Ohio State’s defense strong. During his tenure at Rutgers he turned the organization around, featuring one of the nation’s most tenacious, scrappy defenses every year.

He’ll be coming into a fantastic situation coaching many of the country’s finest athletes.

One wonders, however, how Schiano and head coach Urban Meyer will be towards one another when the going inevitably gets tough. Both men are “Type A” personalities who are used to doing things their way. It should be an interesting pairing.
