NBA fans can enter a contest for the chance to own a piece of history. The Milwaukee Bucks are giving away a game-ball from the team’s win over the then-undefeated Golden State Warriors.
However, before you go running to the Bucks site and throwing your name into the proverbial hat, the contest comes with a reasonable restriction.
According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, “in order to win the ball, a fan has to be a resident of Wisconsin who is at least 18 years old.”
Sorry, Bucks fans outside of Wisconsin and hopeful NBA collectors. Looks like you’re out of luck.
That is, unless the eventual winner of the basketball decides to collect a monetary reward for the history. Per Rovell, Ken Goldin of Goldin Auctions said the ball could bring in up to $10,000 if sold in the near future.
Although the game-used ball doesn’t have a particular significance — like a game-winning buzzer-beater or an upset in the championship — the story itself is a great one. Milwaukee was among the unlikeliest of teams to end Golden State’s 24-0 start to the 2015-16 NBA season.
Disappointingly, the winner of the contest won’t hold the basketball and steal Stephen Curry’s talents in a move straight out of Space Jam. The story of important NBA history will have to suffice.
