Handing out NFL awards for Week 10

Week 10 in the NFL produced many exciting and surprising outcomes along with some high and-low-light performances by some of the league’s top players.

There were also some amazing celebrations and bold smack-talking intermixed within the action.

With that said, here are some Week 10 awards we feel certain players and teams earned for their accomplishments.

Best touchdown celebration swagger: Cam Newton

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton isn’t shy when it comes to celebrating a hard-earned touchdown.

Although, in the eyes of his opponents, he tends to get too carried away and perhaps goes too far in rubbing the score in. But Newton doesn’t care about angering his opposition and he had some bomb dance moves he enjoyed showing off against the Tennessee Titans in a Week 10 win, 27-10.

“I’m a firm believer if you don’t like it, keep me out (of the end zone).”

Newton now has 15 passing touchdowns and six more on the ground. At the red-hot pace he’s on right now, there’s a good chance we’ll soon be seeing more of his dancing in the near future.

Best player quote: J.J. Watt

In a low-scoring 10-6 victory over the formerly undefeated Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt spoke after the game on what the team’s task was for the evening.

USP NFL: PRESEASON-HOUSTON TEXANS AT DENVER BRONCO S FBN USA CO, via ESPN.”

This of course was not received well by Andy Dalton, aka the “Red Rifle,” and he retorted back with this.

“I’m disappointed in him because of the integrity of this game. I have a lot of respect for him. He’s a really good player. There are a lot of kids and people who look up to him, and for him to make comments like that, he’s just showing that’s acceptable to say that kind of stuff.”

Smack talk is second nature in the NFL, so judge for yourself. Should Watt have thrown Dalton’s signature nickname down in the mud, or is the quarterback just taking things too personally because his team lost?

Most shocking upset: Detroit Lions beat the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field

0

The Detroit Lions managed to notch win No. 2 for the season against the Green Bay Packers, 18-16, in what was considered one of the biggest upsets of the season.

Not are wins a rarity for the Lions this season, but the fact the team won at Lambeau Field was an extreme rarity because it has been since 1990 that Detroit has been able to accomplish this task. And, while the win wasn’t necessarily a pretty one for Detroit, which made several mistakes along the way, it doesn’t really matter.

Fired up after the win, with his job appearing to be safe for now, Matthew Stafford commented about the turnout, via ESPN.

“I bet nobody gave us a chance, but that’s the way we like it.”

We can also bet that the Minnesota Vikings liked the Lions’ win too, because now the Vikings lead the NFC North by a game over the Packers with a record of 7-2.

Biggest fantasy football disappointment: Peyton Manning

We all know Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning isn’t exactly giving his fantasy owners the best results these days, but a negative fantasy turnout likely destroyed many fantasy teams in Week 10.

An injured Manning was an utter disaster when he managed only 35 passing yards in the nearly three quarters he played. There were no scores, and every time he threw an interception, the negative points kicked in. After the fourth pick, if anybody could still bear to watch, Manning was finally pulled out of the game. And at the end of the day, Manning churned out a negative-6.6 fantasy points.

Truly depressing to watch, we hope that the Broncos let Manning heal up completely before he sets foot on the field again.

Best fantasy football surprise: Jeremy Langford

Raise your hand if you picked up the Jeremy Langford gem off of the waiver wire when Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte got injured a few weeks back.

Depending on fantasy scoring systems, or in PPR leagues, Langford was the top running back point scorer in Week 10. He tallied 73 rushing yards and one rush touchdown along with 109 receiving yards and a receiving score stemming from seven catches.

Those who are enjoying Lanford on their teams are surely hoping Forte takes his sweet time returning to the game. Although when Forte does return, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him split time with the rookie, who appears to be quite legit moving forward.

Top player performance: Antonio Brown

This was tough pick because there were many spectacular Week 10 performers, but the Week 10 award goes to Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown.

Brown was nothing short of phenomenal when he tallied 10 receptions for 139 yards and two touchdowns. This was Brown’s first game of the season when he posted double scores. And, just to be sure we didn’t miss his entrance on his second visit to the end zone, Brown performed an awesome front-flip in touchdown, nailing the landing perfectly.

Here are a few highlight’s from Browns’s amazing day.

Most impressive run: Adrian Peterson

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson had a monster day and ran all over the Oakland Raiders in Week 10 to the tune of 203 yards and one touchdown, helping his team win 30-14.

The prime highlight of Peterson’s fabulous performance was an 80-yard rushing touchdown that made Raiders defenders look virtually invisible. Speaking after the game, Peterson, who didn’t think he would get another chance to carry the ball after a Terence Newman interception shared this, via twincities.com.

“I was thinking he could have taken it to the house. But I told him I appreciate the 80-yarder.”

The All-Pro has been nothing short of wonderful this year, and he is on course to finish the season with over 1,700 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

Worst team performance: Cincinnati Bengals

After going undefeated for eight games, the Bengals’ world came crashing down in an embarrassing Monday Night Football home loss to the Houston Texans, 10-6.

Andy Dalton and the crew were almost unbearable to watch when one three-and-out after another occurred all evening long. Dalton passed for only 197 yards on 22-of-38 passes for one interception and zero touchdowns, which marks the first game that he has not scored all season.

Additionally, the Bengals run game was a disaster with running backs Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill producing only 55 total rushing yards and no scores.

The Bengals defense was decent for most of the game but couldn’t stop DeAndre Hopkins from making a tremendous one-handed touchdown catch. The score edged the Texans ahead early in the fourth quarter. And, unfortunately for the Bengals, a crucial fumble by A.J. Green was recovered by Quintin Demps, sealing the fate for Cincinnati with less than a minute left on the clock.

Overall, the Bengals spewed up an excruciatingly poor performance after regressing into their prime-time choking habits.
