Ezekiel Elliott reminds us why he’s still a force in 2015 Heisman race

Ezekiel Elliott is the glue that keeps Ohio State’s offense together, and he proved once again in Week 11 that he’s still a man to be reckoned with in the 2015 Heisman Trophy race.

Elliott rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns Saturday against Illinois. He had only 55 yards at the half but turned on the jets in the final two quarters, going off for 126 yards. It was the 15th game in a row in which he had over 100 yards, which is the longest streak in the nation.

The Buckeyes have been sputtering offensively all year long, but Elliott has been the one consistent player who produces week in and week out for the Buckeyes. It’s been his spectacular play this year that has allowed head coach Urban Meyer to go back and forth between quarterback Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett without any backlash in the standings.

On the season, Elliott now has 1,425 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns as the featured offensive weapon for the undefeated Buckeyes. He’s the biggest reason this team has not yet tasted defeat. Moreover, if Ohio State hopes to finish undefeated, with contests against Michigan State and Michigan still upcoming, then it’ll be due to Elliott’s consistent play.

Heading into Week 11, Derrick Henry of Alabama and Leonard Fournette of LSU were the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy in 2015. Also in the running was TCU’s Trevone Boykin, who exited with an apparent ankle injury and is likely out of the race at this point. Baylor’s Corey Coleman is also a player to keep in mind as the season winds down, with his 20 receiving touchdowns, as is Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey and FSU’s Dalvin Cook.

However, should the Buckeyes win out to go undefeated, with Elliott as the catalyst on offense, then it’s safe to say he’s going to receive high consideration for the Heisman. He should, and as the season winds down to its end Elliott will continue reminding us why this is true.
