Aaron Rodgers: Lions matchups ‘just kind of fell our way the last 20 times’

NFL players are so careful to not give bulletin-board material that their press conferences are sometimes nauseatingly bland. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers toed that line.

Entering Sunday’s matchup, Green Bay has not lost at home to the Detroit Lions in 24 straight games. That’s one of the most dominant streaks in NFL history, but Rodgers doesn’t think anything of it.

Or so he says.

According to Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press, Rodgers said the streak probably doesn’t weigh on the Lions or give an extra boost to the Packers.

“I’ve been a part of a lot of the games. There have been some close ones over the years, some battles. It’s just kind of fell our way the last 20 times or whatever but it’s always been very competitive.”

Monarrez notes some Lions writers on the conference call reacted to the statement with laughter. What other response should be expected?

While Green Bay has earned a couple tight victories during their dominant run against Detroit, the wins don’t simply fall the Packers’ way. The streak doesn’t directly affect Sunday’s outcome, but it does have a bearing.

The Lions have won a handful of games against the Packers during that time, but none were at Lambeau Field. There’s no question—no matter how much Detroit tries to pretend or Rodgers tries to ignore—the Lions want to knock off Green Bay.

At least Detroit doesn’t have anything to tack onto its bulletin board.
