Jimmy Johnson on Colin Kaepernick’s woes: ‘I’d look for another quarterback’

Colin Kaepernick’s time as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers may be drawing to a close, and it’s almost a guarantee he won’t start in 2016 if he continues on his current course. Former Dallas Cowboys head coach and current Fox Sports analysts Jimmy Johnson was asked what he’d do if he were coaching Kaepernick.

His response was blunt, to say the least.

“I’d find a new quarterback,” Johnson said on the Fox post-game show, “…with Kaepernick, he is a talented individual, but it looks like he’s playing sandlot football. …And so the other 10 guys out  there with him, they don’t know what to do.”

Johnson spoke about the lack of continuity, lack of structure and the offensive line’s ineffectiveness, but ultimately he pointed to the fact that Kaepernick has regressed every year in the league, rather than progress as an NFL passer.

Kaepernick and the 49ers experienced a new low on Sunday against the Packers. While the team’s defense played valiantly, the offense sputtered as badly as it ever has, converting just eight first downs while allowing six sacks and an interception. The team as a whole gained just 196 yards, and stud running back Carlos Hyde gained 20 on eight carries.

The past two games, San Francisco has scored just 10 points, and things appear to be completely unravelling at the quarter mark of the 2015 NFL season.
