Dallas Cowboys plan to visit Ground Zero before playing Giants in Week 7

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett

The Dallas Cowboys are traveling to New York City a day earlier than normal in order to visit Ground Zero and the new One World Trade Center that opened this year.

According to Shelise Manza Young of Yahoo Sports, the trip is Dallas coach Jason Garrett’s idea. When the 9/11 terrorist attacks happened, Garrett was the Giants backup quarterback so he has a more personal connection to the fateful day.

“The response from everybody in that area and really all across our country, and to a certain extent across the world, to that tragedy was really amazing — the response to that terrible adversity. It’s captured there. It’s captured there by the memorial, and similarly it’s captured by the building, the One World Observatory at the Freedom Tower.”

Garrett, who visited the One World Trade Center observatory with his wife earlier this year, was emotional about the experience, per Yahoo. Another trip prior to Sunday’s game against the Giants presents an opportunity for Garrett to share his recollection of the tragedy.

Plus, it should be an educational time for some of the younger members of the Dallas Cowboys, since they were only children or young teens when 9/11 occurred.
