The Philadelphia Eagles offensive line is a serious problem, but head coach Chip Kelly knows no suitable reinforcements are on the market.
According to Reuben Frank of CSN Philly, Kelly said since no offensive linemen are readily available, the Eagles must stick with what they have.
“At this point in time, you have to (go with who you have). There’s not a bunch of O-linemen on the street. … Everybody’s on their different teams at this point in time, so you hope JP’s healthy this week and he can go. If not, then we have to go with what we got.”
Kelly was referring to starting left tackle Jason Peters, who is battling a quad injury. If Peters is unavailable, it’ll be yet another significant loss to a unit starting center Jason Kelce called “a disgrace” after Philadelphia lost to the Washington football team on Sunday.
Running back DeMarco Murray has taken his fair share of criticism, because the team’s marquee free-agent signing has managed a meager 47 yards on 29 carries as well as 76 receiving yards. Murray also missed the Eagles’ Week 3 outing due to a hamstring injury.
Although Murray’s running style is best suited for a power-oriented scheme, he’d still be a fine back for Philadelphia if he had consistent blocking.
However, that hasn’t happened, and Kelly knows the only way to reverse that trend is relying on the players already on the roster.
