Aaron Rodgers on 6-0 Packers: ‘There’s always room for improvement’

Aaron Rodgers

The Green Bay Packers haven’t been dominant at home this season, which is the opposite of what we saw in 2014 when they were handily beating their opponents at Lambeau Field.

During Sunday’s win over the San Diego Chargers 27-20, the Packers never comfortably owned the upper hand. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers knows this won’t cut it going forward, and despite the unblemished record realizes the team needs to improve.

“You know what? I’m happy. We’re 6-0, but there’s room for improvement,” Rodgers said, via ESPN Wisconsin. “We had 49 (offensive) plays tonight; that’s far below our standard. They had the ball for 38 minutes.”

Noting that a win is a win no matter how attractive it looks, Rodgers is proud of the way the team has been able to win ugly.

“At this point, we don’t need to win pretty every week. We’d like to, and we’re going to get graded to that standard. You set the bar pretty high with the pretty wins. But when you have a game like tonight, 49 plays, the inefficiency in the passing game, it’s not going to be the best meeting room coming back next Monday. But they all count the same. We’ll take ’em all.”

The focal point here is that the Packers are still winning not playing at full capacity, having suffered many injuries to key players. They are clearly still working out the kinks adjusting to the losses.

Imagine how good it’s going to be when they step up their game, and what will be in store for their opponents. Over the last three games Rodgers has only passed for five touchdowns and snapped his lengthy no-interceptions streak for home games. Eddie Lacy is performing nowhere near to par and Randall Cobb still isn’t at 100 percent health.

Yet, the Packers remain undefeated.

In Week 7, the Rodgers and Co. head into their bye, which comes at the perfect time. Hopefully the extra time off will help the Packers finally start rolling full steam ahead. Refreshed, they should be even more of a threat to their competition.

It will be fascinating to see how long Green Bay can hold its undefeated status as the colder weather starts settling in.
