NFLPA signs deal with DraftKings to use players in ads

Daily fantasy football games are booming business, and the NFL Players Association wants to get in on that action.

According to Scott Soshnick of Bloomberg News, the NFLPA has signed a group licensing deal with DraftKings, which will use players in upcoming ads.

This is an interesting turn of events. Many players have openly expressed disdain for fantasy football, such as Jeremy Maclin, who hates how fans root for players at the expense of a team victory.

However, money usually trumps a bit of personal frustration. And, in this case, there is no doubt the players are smart to get in on the action while it’s hot.

Anyone who has been watching football lately knows DraftKings and FanDuel have been pumping out ads like crazy. A report came out recently that suggested the two burgeoning giants have spent upwards of $150 million the past three months in advertising, and the spending ratcheted up significantly as the NFL season began.

So, while many players don’t like the way fans harp on them for not giving them enough points, they’re certainly not going to turn down the chance to rake in the cash at their expense. And, it might just help to offset some of the cost the NFLPA is set to incur helping to fund a new stadium in Los Angeles.
