Jason Garrett says ‘it doesn’t matter’ which running back starts in Week 1

The Dallas Cowboys have a four-man running back committee in place to fill the vast void left by their 2014 star rusher DeMarco Murray.

Right now, though, it is anyone’s guess as to which running back will start in the season-opener against the New York Giants—including head coach Jason Garrett’s.

When Garrett addressed the press as to whether the Cowboys would have Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar or newly acquired Christine Michael start, per Nick Eatman of the team’s’ official website, Garrett claimed, “it doesn’t matter.”

Garrett elaborated on his statement:

“The only thing that matters is everybody getting ready to play. And if their number is called up, they go out there and be their best.”

According to the team’s unofficial depth chart that the public relations office sends out, Randle is listed as the No. 1 running back. He is followed by Dunbar and McFadden. As for Michael, Garrett said that the former Seattle Seahawks runner basically needs to get up to speed:

“He just needs to get in here and learn what we’re doing. Like with all the new guys coming in, their big challenge is to get acclimated to how we do things, our systems of football.”

However the Cowboys utilize their running backs on Sunday against the Giants, it’s likely to consist of a committee where each can showcase their own style in order to keep the opposing defense on its toes.

At the the end of the day, the Cowboys new plan is a far-cry from how they handled the ground attack last season. Good luck, ‘Boys.
