Chip Kelly shoots down question about Mark Sanchez replacing Sam Bradford

Sam Bradford’s first two games with the Philadelphia Eagles haven’t gone as hoped, but Chip Kelly isn’t ready to replace the quarterback with Mark Sanchez.

Per Seth Walder of the New York Daily News, a reported asked Kelly whether or not he considered making the switch for Philly’s Week 3 game, and the head coach’s pleasant wasn’t too pleasant.

Kelly appears unwilling to so quickly move on from Bradford, who the Eagles acquired from the St. Louis Rams during the offseason in exchange for former starter Nick Foles. While Kelly deserves a brief golf clap for his patience with Bradford, that doesn’t mean the reporter’s question is unreasonable.

Through two games—both losses—Bradford has completed 66.3 percent of his passes and tossed a pair of touchdowns, but he’s thrown four interceptions and lost a fumble after an errant snap.

Sanchez is an acceptable and experienced replacement, considering he stepped in last season for nine games when Foles sustained a broken clavicle. The former New York Jets gunslinger tallied 2,418 yards, 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

However, playing musical chairs with the starting quarterback wouldn’t be fair to Bradford, and Sanchez’s job certainly wouldn’t be safe if he took over after only two weeks.

At the least, Kelly needs to stick with Bradford for a couple more games. The root of Philadelphia’s problems lie deeper than the quarterback—but that doesn’t mean Sanchez absolutely won’t receive a look later on.
