Bill Belichick doesn’t care if Tom Brady reaches 400 career touchdowns on Sunday

How many more runs do Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have in them?

Tom Brady has racked up 399 passing touchdowns during his illustrious NFL career, but New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick doesn’t care if the future Hall of Fame quarterback reaches 400 on Sunday.

According to Zack Cox of NESN, Belichick is focused on beating a Jacksonville Jaguars team that defeated the Miami Dolphins last week. Belichick suggested setting records is a “very, very low priority around here” and said:

“Look, Tom’s a great player. We’ve all said that plenty of times. But I don’t really care about any records this week. We really need to beat Jacksonville. Whatever our team needs to do to beat them, that’s what we need to do.”

Brady echoed his longtime coach’s sentiment, saying, “As long as we’re scoring points, I’m happy.” Brady continued:

“I really don’t care whether we throw them in or hand it off or if it’s a defensive score. However we can score points and win games, that’s what matters to me. It’s always what’s mattered most.”

Perhaps Belichick and Brady know that reaching the 400 mark is practically a lock, so it’s an accolade not even worth mentioning in great detail until he officially records the passing touchdown.

Brady has already tossed seven scores in just two games this season, and the Jaguars—while improved—don’t exactly have a lockdown defense.

New England hosts Jacksonville on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. ET, and Brady should become the fourth quarterback in NFL history to reach 400.
