Watch: Madison Bumgarner crushes his fifth HR of the season

Madison Bumgarner

Somebody forgot to tell Madison Bumgarner that pitchers don’t know how to hit.

The San Francisco Giants star pitcher took another ball deep on Friday night in the second inning at PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates—his fifth home run of the 2015 season.

Here’s a video of his two-run blast, which nearly reached the second deck.

Here are some impressive stats that highlight just how amazing Bumgarner’s hitting has been for the Giants this year: He’s the first pitcher to hit five homers in a season since 2006, when Carlos Zambrano achieved the feat. He’s also only the first Giants pitcher to do it since 1934 and after hitting four last year is only the 12th pitcher in MLB history to hit four or more in multiple seasons.

And, even more impressive for Bumgarner, his slugging percentage this year (.554) has only been bested by two other hitters in the National League this year, Bryce Harper and Paul Goldschmidt.

Clearly, Bumgarner is in a league of his own when it comes to hitting. Combined with his solid pitching record the past few years, and his ability to step up in big games with his best performances, it could be argued he is one of the best overall players in the game today.
