Rory McIlroy not booked for practice round for PGA Championship, per agent

Despite reports of a comeback for the PGA Championship, Rory McIlroy will not be making the trip to Whistling Straights next week, according to his publicist.

Reuters had previously reported McIlroy as having booked a practice round, but when asked about the report, Terry Prone of the Communications Clinic wrote: “Not booked for such a round. Still going through the ankle rehab process,” via Irish Golf Desk.

This news shouldn’t surprise anyone.

McIlroy totaly ruptured a ligament in his left ankle just one month ago, and a comeback at this point seemed awfully quick, considering the extent of his injury.

Before suffering his injury, the world’s No. 1 golfer had claimed two tournament trophies and five other top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour in 2015.

Without McIlroy, there are still plenty of stars in the field, but there’s no doubt his soaring shots and superstar appeal will be missed.
