Report: USC Football banning alcohol from locker room

In the wake of Steve Sarkisian’s drunken rant over the weekend, USC’s locker room has banned alcohol.

Citing a “senior source,” Scott Wolf or the Los Angeles Daily News reported this story on Monday evening.

It’s hard to believe alcohol was ever allowed in the locker room of a college football program, but Wolf is a serious journalist and hasn’t indicated that this is anything but a serious report.

Sarkisian made a fool of himself at a donor event on Saturday. He was reportedly drunk as a skunk and gave an obscenity-filled speech before being dragged off the stage.

The next morning brought with it clarity and an apology.

I sincerely apologize to my players and staff and to our fans for my behavior and my inappropriate language at our kickoff event Saturday night,” Sarkisian said (h/t USCTrojans.com).  I have a responsibility to all of them and I let them down.  Pat Haden talked to me after the event about my actions and I assured him this will not happen again.”

ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit commented on the ordeal on Monday, noting it will be tough for Sarkisian to overcome this faux pas.

Perhaps banning alcohol is a good first step.
