Report: Arian Foster surgery set for Friday

Houston Texans running back Arian Foster sustained a groin injury during the team’s first day of padded practice, multiple reports emerged that he would need surgery.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the procedure is scheduled for Friday.

Foster is expected to be placed on the short-term injured reserve, which means he can return for the Texans’ Week 10 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football.

In the meantime, Houston is working out potential replacements. The Texans reportedly planned to sign Pierre Thomas, but the back’s agent said the two sides failed to work out an agreement.

Until that happens, however, Alfred Blue and Chris Polk will continue to receive first-team reps. Blue tallied 528 yards and two touchdowns last year, while Polk managed 172 yards and four scores as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
