Ndamukong Suh: 2015 Dolphins defense has more talent than 2014 Lions

Ndamukong Suh was a pivotal piece of the Detroit Lions’ No. 1 ranked defense last season, and the All-Pro defensive tackle believes the Miami Dolphins have even greater potential than his previous team.

According to ESPN’s James Walker, Suh conceded that he cannot predict the Miami defense will indeed finish atop the league but said his new teammates have the talent to reach that status. Suh said:

“I don’t have a problem saying this, but I think personally that we have more talent [in Miami] than we had in the No. 1 defense last year in Detroit. So, by that saying, you would say we should have the No. 1 defense this year. But that’s not going to happen; we don’t know what’s going to happen until guys come together, understand what they’re going to do and then you create a camaraderie.”

Suh isn’t making an outlandish statement by any means. He demands double-teams in the trenches, which makes it easier on the rest of the defensive line, which makes it easier on the linebackers and secondary.

The trio of Suh, Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon should compose one of the NFL’s most dangerous defensive lines. Wake and Vernon have combined for an average of 19 sacks over the last two seasons, and Suh’s presence may help that already-impressive number rise.

Behind them, cornerback Brent Grimes, safety Reshad Jones and linebacker Jelani Jenkins highlight a unit that finished a respectable No. 12 last season.

Football fans will receive their first 60-minute chance to watch Suh and Co. showcase that potential on the field when Miami travels to battle the Washington football team on Sep. 13.
