The first tournament of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoffs teed off on Thursday, and Bubba Watson is off to a respectable start at The Barclays.

But according to ESPN’s Jason Sebel, Watson said he won’t have many thoughts about the five-under-par 65 that has him atop the leaderboard.

The affable left-hander opened his tournament on a roll, circling seven birdies on his scorecard—including this 20-footer on the third hole that moved Watson, who started on the back nine, to six under.

He birdied the fourth before giving back a shot on both 6 and 9, ending at five under. Spencer Levin and Camilo Villegas each reached the clubhouse sporting an identical round.

Watson, who currently ranks third in the FedEx Cup standings, is off to a terrific start, especially given the potential of a high-pressure situation. His partners for Thursday and Friday, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day, are in first and second place, respectively.

Considering the mental acuity it takes to post four solid rounds of golf, Watson is making an excellent decision to not dwell on the 65, no matter if it holds up as a co-leading score.

He’s not so dumb after all.
