Warriors Re-Sign Draymond Green to Five-Year, $85 Million Contract

Closer to keeping their championship core together, Yahoo Sports NBA insider Marc Spears is reporting that the Golden State Warriors have re-signed restricted free agent Draymond Green to a five-year, $85 million deal. It’s the first move of free agency for the champs, and it wasn’t necessarily unexpected.

Green, 25, averaged 11.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.3 blocks per game in his first full season as the team’s starting power forward. Those numbers increased to 13.7 points, 10.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game during Golden State’s postseason title run. Green, who stands at an undersized 6-foot-7, also added a triple-double in the Warriors NBA Finals-clinching Game 6 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The interesting dynamic here is that Green took less than a max deal before even testing the waters as a restricted free agent. That just goes to show us how much he wanted to return to the Warriors. The market was set pretty high after his tremendous playoff appearance.

With Green back in the fold for five more years, The Warriors’ primary offseason goal has been accomplished. They will now turn to looking to trade David Lee.
