Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s offensive comments about Mexican immigrants are still causing repercussions.
The latest entity to high-tail away from Trump is the PGA of America. The organization pulled their Grand Slam of Golf Event from the Trump National Golf Club located in Los Angeles, CA.
Reportedly, the two parties mutually agreed to cease their business relationship (h/t sbnation.com):
“The PGA of America met with Donald J. Trump yesterday and the parties mutually agreed that it is in the best interest of all not to conduct the 2015 PGA Grand Slam of Golf at Trump National Los Angeles,” the association said in a statement released on Tuesday. “The PGA of America is in the process of exploring options, including a venue for its annual PGA Junior League Golf Championship, and will comment further at the appropriate time.”
This report comes on the heels of ESPN removing its ESPY Celebrity Golf Classic Event from the same venue and relocating it to the Pelican Hill Country Club.
After Trump began receiving condemnation for his controversial statements, he told the Golf Channel that golf executives “know I’m right.”
Since Trump’s statement, the Golf industry, including the PGA and LPGA Tours, USGA and PGA of America, released this regarding Trump’s opinions:
“Inconsistent with our strong commitment to an inclusive and welcoming environment in the game of golf.”
However, the PGA Tour, which uses Trump courses for many of its events carefully claimed that they “understand and support” the PGA’s decision to cancel the event and will continue to “monitor the situation.”
The PGA of America joins what is becoming a laundry list of entities to have broken ties with the outspoken presidential candidate. With several months still to campaign, look for much of the same as it relates to departures from Trump.
