The DeAndre Jordan sweepstakes might be coming to a close.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Mavericks have positioned themselves in front of the Los Angeles Clippers as the favorite to land Jordan.

Jordan, a second-round pick of the Clippers in 2008, has spent all seven NBA seasons with the team.

The 7-foot center has posted the league’s highest field-goal percentage during each of the last three campaigns and grabbed the most rebounds in both 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Jordan is known for his defensive abilities, and a first-team All-Defensive award reinforced his strength. But he’s also a potentially dominant complement on offense. According to Basketball-Reference.com, the Clippers’ offensive rating plummeted from 117.6 to 101.2 when Jordan exited the floor.

Dallas lost starting center Tyson Chandler to the Phoenix Suns, but Jordan would be a terrific replacement—and upgrade.

Los Angeles could offer Jordan a five-year contract worth approximately $110 million, so he’s walking away from a little extra money to sign with Dallas.

Jordan registered 11.5 points, 15.0 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game last season for the Clippers.
