UPDATE: NFL reduces Le’Veon Bell’s suspension to two games

Le'Veon Bell

While all the focus has been on Tom Brady’s appeal of the four-game suspension the NFL levied against him stemming from Deflategate, there’s another negotiation going on between the league and the players association.

According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, there are currently negotiations taking place to shorten the three-game suspension Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell received after being cited for marijuana possession last August.

Bell, 23, is among the best all-around running backs in the NFL. He put up over 2,200 total yards and 11 scores this past season. If the union is able to get his suspension reduced to one or two games, it will be absolutely huge for a Steelers squad that opens the season against the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams.

Pittsburgh is 12-1 when Bell puts up 20-plus rush attempts. Needless to say, Pittsburgh would benefit if the two sides are able to come to a compromise.

Update: The NFL has announced that Bell’s suspension has been reduced to two games. This means that he’s still going to miss the outings against New England and San Francisco, but will be available for the team’s Week 3 tilt with St. Louis.
