Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson: ‘I always keep the mark at 2,500’

Adrian Peterson is raring to destroy NFL record books on a yearly basis.

The Minnesota Vikings running back came within eight yards of breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record with 2,097 yards in 2012, but his personal goal is much, much more lofty.

According to the team’s official Twitter account, Peterson aims to rush for 2,500 yards every year.

“I always keep the mark at twenty-five, so if I get close to that, that’s not bad,” he said.

If anyone can do this, it’s Peterson, especially considering he’s been chomping at the bit to play the game after missing almost the entire 2014 season. And for anyone wondering if this is a new thing for “All Day,” a quick Google search reveals Peterson has said the same thing before.

After the powerhouse of a running back burned the edge in his attempt to beat Dickerson’s record in 2012, he stated the same goal. Unfortunately, his 2013 season was a bitter disappointment. He didn’t even hit the half-way mark with 1,266 yards.

Chances are, his 2012 season will be his career best.

Minnesota has a young quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater who should continue developing into a league superstar. The team has begun investing in the passing game more as a result, and there are only so many footballs to go around in any given contest.

Peterson will still be a focal point in Norv Turner’s offense, but he’s not likely to receive enough touches to come close to his stated goal. Still, one must admire his willingness to aim exceedingly high.

On another note, the Vikings are going to push for a playoff spot in the NFC this year, and this team appears ready to take the next step. A healthy Peterson will have a big impact on their chances, even if 2,500 yards is out of the question.
