Miami Dolphins sign QB Josh Freeman just 4 days after cutting him

Josh Freeman

Josh Freeman must feel like Alice these days—things just keep getting curiouser and curiouser.

Four days after being released by the Miami Dolphins, the once-heralded quarterback has been signed yet again, as the team announced on Twitter.

It’s hard to know what the reasoning was by Miami’s front office to sign him less than a week after cutting him. After he was let go, most people covering the industry figured Freeman was officially done, that he’d never get another chance.

Freeman’s career has been strange.

He appeared to be one of the up-and-coming stars at the quarterback position after passing for over 4,000 yards with 27 touchdowns in 2012 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But the next year was the beginning of the end for the former Kansas State star. Greg Schiano torpedoed his young quarterback’s career, and the downward spiral hasn’t reversed its course since then.

Signed by the Minnesota Vikings in 2013 after being waved by Tampa Bay in the middle of the season, he floundered badly. To this point, Freeman still has yet to recover the form that propelled him into the national spotlight a few years ago.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald doesn’t think Freeman’s chances are good to make the team’s final roster this summer:

This is likely his final shot to earn a spot on an NFL roster.
