Former 49ers Defensive Tackle Ray McDonald Charged with Domestic Violence

It’s clear that Ray McDonald’s NFL career is pretty much over. The San Francisco 49ers released the defensive lineman late last season after reports surfaced he was being investigated for sexual assault. That came on the heels of a domestic violence complaint prior to the team’s season opener against the Dallas Cowboys—a complaint that many figured was enough for San Francisco to bench him.

Despite those two issues, neither of which have seen McDonald charged with a crime, the Chicago Bears decided to take a chance on the veteran by handing him a one-year contract this past spring. It’s a decision that backfired quickly.

Back in May, McDonald was arrested twice within a two-day span. The first arrest came after authorities indicated the former Florida standout assaulted his ex-fiancee. He was then arrested for breaking a court-mandated restraining order.

The Associated Press is now reporting that the Santa Clara County district attorney’s office is charging McDonald with domestic violence and false imprisonment stemming from that incident. In addition to this, he’s being charged with child endangerment and violating a court order (restraining order).

Chicago released McDonald shortly after May’s incident. He remains unsigned and will be subject to league discipline on the off chance he catches on with another team.
