Presidential candidate and business mogul Donald Trump is losing supporters left and right (pun intended) after making controversial remarks claiming Mexico sends people over to the United States who have “lots of problems.”
ESPN is the latest faction to separate itself from Trump. The “sports leader” made the decision to move their ESPY Celebrity Golf Tournament from the Trump National Golf Club to the Pelican Hill Golf Club in Los Angeles.
Here is Trump’s rant that has many supporters and associates parting ways with him:
“They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists,” Trump said during his presidential launch. “And some, I assume, are good people.”
ESPN now joins other major companies such as Univision, NBC Universal and Macy’s to cut ties with Trump.
ESPN released this statement regarding its decision:
“We decided it was appropriate to change the venue, and are grateful for the opportunity to stage the event at Pelican Hill on short notice. This charity outing benefits The V Foundation’s Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund, providing resources for important cancer research for minority populations, including Hispanics and African Americans. Our decision reflects our deep feelings for our former colleague and support for inclusion of all sports fans. Diversity and inclusion are core values at ESPN and our decision also supports that commitment.”
Could Trump possibly launch a lawsuit against ESPN upon hearing this news? When Univision cut ties with the Miss USA Pageant, Trump sued the company for $500 million. ESPN certainly won’t be the last entity to leave Trump high and dry due to his offensive and racist attitudes.
