Dallas Cowboys place Darren McFadden on PUP list

Just a few days after releasing running back Ryan Williams, the Dallas Cowboys have placed another injury-plagued running back on the inactive list.

Darren McFadden, who signed a one-year deal with the team back in the spring, will start training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list with a reported hamstring injury.

McFadden’s addition to the injury list may have been quick, but it can’t be seen as a surprise. Coming off the first full 16-game season of his seven-year career, McFadden has dealt with injury after injury following an impressive college career at Arkansas. In fact, he missed over a quarter of Oakland’s games while starting just 56 of the team’s outings during his stint in Northern California.

Unlike the PUP list to start the year, McFadden can be activated at any time. If he’s still unable to go as camp draws to a conclusion, there’s a chance he could miss the first six games of the regular year.

With Williams gone and McFadden unable to practice, the Cowboys sole legitimate option to get first-team reps in camp is Joseph Randle. This is an indication that the team will look to add a veteran running back in the coming days.
