Raiders Derek Carr Hopes Rest and Rehab Will Cure Numb Finger in Right Hand

Derek Carr

The Oakland Raiders finally found their quarterback in Derek Carr, but the new face of the franchise is currently dealing with an injury that could potentially need surgery. Before that option is explored, however, the Raiders are hoping rest and rehab will do the trick.

Carr missed the first session of OTAs on Tuesday and will likely miss the rest of the sessions as well. He is dealing with numbness in his right (throwing hand) ring finger, as reported by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen:

Mortensen previously reported Carr might need surgery but that the team fully expects its quarterback to be ready for training camp, regardless.

Carr passed for 3,270 yards with 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions as a rookie. His intelligence and leadership was clearly evident, and it would seem his future is bright in the NFL.

Oakland brought in a trio of talented receivers this offseason to help with Carr’s development. The Raiders drafted receiver Amari Cooper out of Alabama and tight end Clive Walford out of Florida, and veteran Michael Crabtree was brought on as a free agent.

Provided Carr’s numb finger doesn’t become a lingering issue, he, and the Raiders, should take a big step forward in the upcoming season.
