Mike Evans Preferred Jameis Winston to Marcus Mariota

Mike Evans

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans, who the team selected seventh overall in last year’s draft, is more than happy about their first-round pick from this past week.

Stating that he preferred Winston over Tennessee Titans’ quarterback Marcus Mariota, Evans commented on his new quarterback (via the Tampa Bay Times).

He can sit in the pocket and deliver the ball.

This is the polar opposite of the mobile signal caller that was Tampa Bay’s other possibility at the top of the draft. Mariota is seen as much more mobile than his Buccaneers counterpart.

Speaking of which, Evans commented about his former teammate at Texas A&M, Johnny Manziel.

I did my time with a mobile quarterback. That was fun.

We all know where Manziel has gotten with his legs thus in the NFL. We also know that there might have been a hint of sarcasm in Evans’ comments.

Whether Winston or Mariota has the better rookie season will likely depend on the weapons around them. In this, the new Buccaneers signal caller appears to have the upper hand. In addition to Evans, who put up over 1,000 yards as a rookie, Tampa possesses a physical veteran pass catcher in Vincent Jackson. Those two should help Winston make a somewhat seamless transition to the NFL game.
