Malcom Brown Says He’s the “Best Player” Patriots Have Ever Drafted

The New England Patriots apparently hit the jackpot in Round 1 of the 2015 NFL Draft when they selected defensive tackle Malcom Brown out of Texas. After being picked up by the Super Bowl champs, Brown made an incredibly bold statement about his future:

Ya’ll about to get the best player ya’ll have ever drafted so just be ready for when I touch the field,” Brown stated, per Phil Perry of CSN New England.

It’s eerily similar to what another of New England’s draft picks said a decade-and-a-half ago, when Tom Brady told Robert Kraft, “I’m the best decision this organization has ever made.”

Brady has lived up to his bold words, delivering four championships to New England while putting himself in the conversation of “greatest player of all time.”

Needless to say, Brown has a monumental task ahead of him—like, climbing Mount Everest 10 times huge—in order to supplant a guy many would rank ahead of Joe Montana as the GOAT.

Heck, if Brown is able to step in and replicate what Vince Wilfork has done the past decade, anyone would have to say the draft pick was a smashing success. In order for the young man to live up to his own standard, however, he’s going to have to make J.J. Watt’s recent accomplishments seem minute.

Bold words are well and good, but the tricky part is yet to come for Brown.

Thankfully, there’s no doubt the former Longhorn pile-driver has the skills to pay the bills. Many analysts ranked him right behind Leonard Williams as the second-best defensive tackle in the draft.

Now it’s time for him to back up his big talk with some big-time plays this upcoming season, and for many more to come.
