Houston Texans Forced to Cancel OTAs Due to Massive Flooding

Due to torrential flooding in the Houston area over Memorial Day weekend, the Texans have been forced to cancel OTAs for Tuesday, May 26.

The team announced this decision on Twitter, via Marc Vandermeer, the voice of the Texans:

Per Tania Ganguli of ESPN, the Texans are expected to begin the OTAs on Wednesday, May 27, after the flooding has subsided.

The storm was so fierce and the flooding so dangerous late last night that Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard, along with many fans, stayed at Toyota Center well into the wee hours after defeating the Golden State Warriors in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals.

Many fans who did leave the arena after last night’s NBA playoff game ended up getting stuck on the freeway, which was flooded.

And as you can see here, the flooding was extensive:

The Texans are obviously making a smart decision by delaying the start of OTAs.

Safety comes first, and there is much work to be done to clear away debris and broken-down vehicles that were stranded due to the powerful storm that swept through the area.
