Report: Browns Offer Titans Two First-Round Picks for Second Overall Selection

Here’s a concrete report from a respected NFL insider.

According to ESPN’s Pat McManamon, the Cleveland Browns have offered up their two first-round picks (12th and 19th overall) to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for the second overall pick. The report goes on to indicate that Cleveland would then draft Oregon’s Marcus Mariota with the second pick.

If the Titans were to agree to this deal, it would shake up the entire first round of the NFL draft. Considering the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to select Jameis Winston with the first pick, this means that two quarterbacks would go off the board with the first two picks.

For the Browns, this report is somewhat mind blowing. The team has selected a quarterback in the first round in two of the past three years. In reality, trading up for Mariota means that Cleveland would essentially have spent four first-round picks on a quarterback in four years.

It was previously reported on Wednesday that both the Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers have continued interest in the Oregon product. However, Cleveland is in position to offer up a better bounty for the second pick.

This doesn’t mean that Tennessee will take the deal. It is also said to be interested in the reigning Heisman winner. In addition to this, the 12th and 19th picks don’t necessarily represent fair-market value for the second selection.
