Report: Angels, Rangers Talking Josh Hamilton Trade

Fresh off news that Josh Hamilton’s disastrous tenure with the Los Angeles Angels is likely over, comes this report from Yahoo’s Jeff Passan indicating that the Angels are in “deep discussions” with the Texas Rangers in a deal surrounding Hamilton.

On the field, it’s not much of a surprise that the Angels could work out a deal for the ultra-talented outfielder. However, it’s Hamilton’s latest bout with chemical dependency that makes this somewhat intriguing.

Hamilton has been away from the team since he suffered a setback in his battle against alcohol and drug addition in February.

Since that news broke, the Angels have publicly refused to show any type of support for the veteran outfielder.

Hamilton, who saw the early part of his career derailed due to addiction, had one of the greatest comebacks in recent history as a member of  the Texas Rangers prior to signing a huge contract with the Angels. From 2008-2012, Hamilton tallied five consecutive All-Star Game appearances and earned the American League MVP in 2010 after hitting .359 for the Rangers.

In two seasons with the Angels, Hamilton has failed to live up to the five-year, $125 million contract he signed with the team back in 2013.

If this deal goes through, it will be interesting to see if Hamilton can overcome his latest setback in the very same city that saw him reach the pinnacle of his career years earlier.
