Orioles Announce That Wednesday’s Game will be Closed to the Public

In an unprecedented move due to the continued violence in their city, the Baltimore Orioles announced on Tuesday that the team’s game against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday will be closed to the public.

Directly from the Orioles:

Tomorrow’s game between the Orioles and the Chicago White Sox will begin at 2:05 p.m. ET and will be closed to the public.

That’s bringing us to an entirely new level when it comes to the situation currently happening in Baltimore following the death of Freddie Gray while in custody of the Baltimore Police Department earlier this month.

Since that situation, things have spiraled out of control in Baltimore. Peaceful protests have turned into violent riots and looting, which has forced the city to implement a mandatory 10 p.m. city-wide curfew on a nightly basis.

As it relates to the Orioles, their past two games against the White Sox have been postponed. One of those games will now take place as a doubleheader next month.

In addition to this, Baltimore’s series against the Tampa Bay Rays, originally slated to take place at Camden Yards, will be relocated to Tropicana Field in Tampa. The Orioles will remain the home team for that series.

However, baseball is the least of the city’s worries during this unprecedented moment in its history.
