NFL Teams Have Inquired About Jimbo Fisher

As one of the most successful college football coaches in the land, it’s not a surprise that Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher has received some inquiries about jumping to the NFL.

Appearing on NBC Sports Radio’s PFT Live on Tuesday, Fisher confirmed that he has received some interest.

I’ve had people inquire that if I’d be interested, through agents and stuff like that,” the championship head coach said. “And it’s just not something that I’ve jumped on right away.”

When pressed about the timing of these inquiries, Fisher expanded on his previous statement by indicating that the contact came recently.

Of the teams that had head-coaching vacancies this offseason, the San Francisco 49ers were linked to potential college coaches. Though, the team seemed dead set on promoting Jim Tomsula from defensive line coach.

This doesn’t mean the seven teams that filled their vacancies over the past few months were the only ones to inquire about Fisher’s interest. A dirty little secret around the NFL is that teams with head coaches do engage in back-channel contact with other potential coaching candidates.

In terms of Fisher’s interest in making the jump to the NFL, it doesn’t seem to be there right now.

But in this business you never say never. I’ve had some opportunities to go up in the NFL and I’ve chosen not to do it.”

Fisher has spent the past the past five seasons as Florida State’s head coach. The 49-year-old boasts a career 58-11 record in those five seasons, earning a national championship in 2013. He’s also a ridiculous 39-3 over the past three years.
