LeSean McCoy Takes Shot at Chip Kelly

New Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy lashed out publicly at his former head coach with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Traded to the Bills last month after putting up some record numbers in Philadelphia, McCoy had these scathing comments to share about Eagles head man Chip Kelly.

I don’t think he likes or respects the stars. I’m being honest,” McCoy said on Monday, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. “I think he likes the fact that it’s Chip Kelly and the Eagles.”

There’s little doubt that McCoy is still bitter over being exiled from Philadelphia after tallying a ridiculous 9,074 total yards and 54 touchdowns in six seasons with the team.

Rather than continuing to speak in broad strokes, McCoy talked more specifically about the situation with Kelly in Philadelphia.

It was ‘DeSean Jackson—a high-flying, take-off-the-top-of-the-defense receiver’. Or ‘The quick, elusive LeSean McCoy,’ ” McCoy shared on Monday. “I don’t think (Kelly) likes that.”

McCoy’s point seems to be that Kelly supports the idea of the Eagles more than he supports the individual players. While that could be said for most head coaches around the NFL, Kelly’s decision to part ways with the core of the Eagles’ team over the past month has put him in position to receive criticism from the masses, former players included.

McCoy also took exception to comments from the Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie that the running back wasn’t a fit in Kelly’s offense.

I read what he said in the media and I agree with it. There’s nothing wrong with that. Chip felt like I wasn’t a fit for his offense. But why not say that? It’s hard to say that because if you turn on that tape when that (offense) isn’t going I make that (stuff) happen. You see, he can’t say that. But I think that’s how he felt.”

Considering McCoy put up over 3,600 total yards in the two seasons that he played under Kelly, this is a legitimate point for the three-time Pro Bowler to make.

Interestingly enough, Philadelphia decided to invest a huge contract on former Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray. I wonder whether that decision plays a role in McCoy’s resentment of his old team.
