LeBron James Calls Johnny Manziel ‘Part of the Family’

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel checked out of rehab and returned to the team shortly before voluntary workouts began, and he also made an appearance at Game 1 of the Cleveland Cavaliers’  postseason series against the Boston Celtics.

According to Joe Vardon of the Northeast Ohio Media Group, the much-maligned quarterback was a guest of Cleveland star LeBron James and his business associates.

“‘He’s our guest, he’s part of the family,’ James said this morning.

Manziel, entering his second NFL season, remains a client of James’ marketing firm LRMR. He sat courtside for the playoff opener next to Maverick Carter, James’ friend and business partner who runs LRMR.”

Manziel, the No. 22 overall pick in the 2014 draft, is looking to bounce back from a disappointing rookie campaign. He tallied 18 completions in 35 attempts for 175 yards and two interceptions, though the Texas A&M product did score one touchdown on the ground.

But no matter Manziel’s performance on the field, he has a high-profile ally in James. The four-time NBA MVP said last December that he is “one of [Manziel’s] biggest supporters,” per Vardon.

While that could be due to the fact LRMR represents Manziel in sponsorships, the relationship between the quarterback and small forward has a mutual goal: Put Cleveland sports back on the map.
