Report: Bears Trade Brandon Marshall to the Jets

NFL trade season is off to a roaring start. Just days after the Philadelphia Eagles sent LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills, it appears that another dynamic offensive player is headed to the AFC East.

According to multiple reports, the Chicago Bears have traded enigmatic veteran receiver Brandon Marshall to the New York Jets, pending a physical.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Marshall was placed on the trading block. That obviously wasn’t idle chat.

Marshall, 30, recorded just 61 receptions for 721 yards in 13 games last season. It was the first time since his rookie campaign in 2006 that he failed to hit the 1,000-yard plateau.

The five-time Pro Bowler has put up 773 receptions for 9,771 yards and 65 touchdowns during a nine-year NFL career. The Jets will be his fourth team.

In terms of what this means for the Jets, they get a true No. 1 wide receiver for an offense that seems to be without a quarterback at this stage on the offseason. It also means that Percy Harvin and his $10.5 million cap hit for next season is likely gone.

With a cap hit of $7.7 million next year, Marshall has $23.7 million remaining over the final three years of an extension he signed with the Bears last March.
