Nick Fairley Signs with the St. Louis Rams

Former Detroit Lions first-round pick Nick Fairley has agreed to join the St. Louis Rams.

It’s a move that seemingly came from nowhere. St. Louis already boasts two dynamic interior defensive linemen in the form of Michael Brockers and Aaron Donald. Where Fairley fits in there is anyone’s guess.

Skill has never been a question regarding Fairley. However, his struggles have been with consistency and weight since entering the league as the 13th overall pick in the 2011 draft.

This past season saw Fairley miss eight games due to injury. However, his performance when on the field was up to elite levels. According to official Pro Football Focus metrics (subscription required), the former Auburn standout graded out as the 18th-best defensive tackle in the NFL.

Fairley will now join the Rams to form a solid trio along the interior of the team’s defensive line. All in all, it’s a solid move for Les Snead and company. It just remains to be seen if they are going to get a motivated player, and exactly where he fits into their scheme.

Terms of the deal are not yet known.
