Mets Players Addicted to “Trivia Crack”

Count me among the group of people that never want to try this Argentina-based smart phone app called “Trivia Crack.”

If you can’t tell by the title that it makes sense to stay away from the game, just check out some New York Mets players, who are apparently addicted to it.

Wall Street Journal’s Jared Diamond penned a story on Monday that depicts a Mets locker room overrun with players who are busy thumbing away at their iPhone’s and other gadgets in an attempt to answer some of the world’s most difficult questions.

One wouldn’t expect them (Mets players) to spend their free time trying to name the longest river in Europe (the Volga), or figure out which Friedrich Schiller poem was incorporated into the final movement of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (“Ode to Joy”).

Diamond went on to interview a few different players currently in Mets camp.

It’s always been the case with baseball players that things get a little monotonous,” said Matt Bowman, a pitching prospect who graduated from Princeton and will likely open the season at Triple-A Las Vegas. “We can get in the habit of not exercising our minds.

Now if this happens during the regular season, we are pretty sure that Mets manager Terry Collins will put a stop to it. Can you just imagine Matt Harvey and Bartolo Colon going at it on their phones from the bullpen?

A little bit of advice here. Don’t go downloading this app after reading our article. We are pretty sure your boss won’t be too thrilled with you playing “Trivia Crack” as he/she looks over your back in your cubicle.
