Andre Johnson Officially Signs with the Colts

In one of the least surprising moves of the young free agency period, veteran wide receiver Andre Johnson has announced that he officially signed with the Indianapolis Colts.

Released after 12 seasons with the Houston Texans, the 33-year-old Johnson joins a Colts team that’s obviously in win-now mode. He will be catching passes from Andrew Luck opposite T.Y. Hilton in an offense that now includes future Hall of Fame running back Frank Gore.

That’s a stunning turn from the Colts “weapons” on offense over the past couple seasons.

Johnson, a seven-time Pro Bowl performer, ranks ninth in the history of the NFL in receptions (1,012) and 12th in receiving yards (13,597).

Signing with Indy might be as much about sticking it to the Texans in the AFC South as it is about contending for a Super Bowl.

ESPN’s Josina Anderson is reporting that the deal is worth $21 million over three seasons.
