49ers Preparing to Lose Frank Gore

Just a day after San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York indicated that he thinks the team will find a way to keep Frank Gore, a report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport tells us a completely different story.

According to the insider, San Francisco believes it is losing Frank Gore and is starting to look around for a replacement.

Gore, who has played his entire 10-year NFL career with the 49ers, would leave as the franchise’s all-time leading rusher with 11,073 yards. Those said to be interested in Gore are the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts. Dallas’ interest is dependent on what happens with DeMarco Murray.

Even at nearly 32 years of age, Gore seems to have a lot left in the tank. He put up over 1,100 rushing yards while averaging 4.3 yards per attempt last season.

As it relates to the 49ers, this probably isn’t a bad thing. The team has a solid young running back in Carlos Hyde and likely needed to move on from Gore.

San Francisco is also said to be in the market for a veteran running back. The aforementioned Murray and C.J. Spiller remain viable options. In addition to this, we can expect to hear Adrian Peterson’s name pop up in the coming days. With a run-based offensive attack, San Francisco wants two viable starter-caliber running backs.

In another bit of 49ers-related information, the team is reportedly favorites to land Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith. The Baltimore Sun’s Aaron Wilson describes the interest as mutual between the wide receiver and the team.
