Report: Vincent Jackson Staying with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Vincent Jackson

News that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers reportedly want to keep veteran wideout Vincent Jackson with the team in 2015 comes on the heels of finding out that the Cardinals have closed a deal to keep Larry Fitzgerald in Arizona.

Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht indicated on Wednesday that the team will bring Jackson back in 2015.

It has to be presumed that the two sides will attempt to work out a contract restructure. Jackson’s contract is set to take on one the highest cap figures among all receivers in the NFL next season at $12.2 million.

Jackson’s future with the Buccaneers had previously been a point of contention due to his high salary and the fact that Tampa Bay reportedly put the veteran receiver on the trade market last season. Additionally, he is coming off of a season where he his yardage total was the lowest it has been in four years.

While the Buccaneers seem to have faith in the 32-year-old Jackson as he approaches his 11th NFL season and fourth with the team, perhaps a rookie quarterback could jump-start him a bit more in 2015. It is highly expected that Tampa Bay will select a quarterback with the first pick of the 2015 draft. If so, that new quarterback might now have two towering figures in Jackson and young star Mike Evans at receiver.
